Founder & Partner
An experienced public and private sector advisor with over $1.35 billion in fundraising completed to-date.
At Valor Equity Partners, as part of a two-person team, Marcus raised $1 billion for Valor Equity Partner's fourth fund. He focused primarily on the Firm’s capital raise and client service functions. While at Valor, Marcus also developed and institutionalized self-sustaining communications and marketing strategies, including tech-enabled internal systems for streamlined outreach to investors.
Prior to joining Valor, Marcus was Deputy National Finance Director for the Hillary for America (“HFA”) presidential campaign where he managed the fundraising efforts for the 13 states that comprised the Midwest region and raised over $55m for the cycle. This included the planning and execution of over 120 principal events with Secretary Clinton, Senator Tim Kaine, Former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.
Before joining HFA, Marcus served as Chief of Staff at Enduring Hydro/Cube Hydro Partners. There, he spearheaded special projects and sourced new opportunities to build, buy, and upgrade hydropower throughout the United States. He was instrumental to the early growth phase of the company and to securing a joint venture funding agreement that allowed for greater investment in hydro across the United States.
Marcus also held senior roles in President Obama's reelection campaign and within the Obama administration where he planned and executed over 45 principal events (including President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden), coordinating with the White House and Secret Service to implement the campaign regional and constituency fundraising program. He served as National Finance Director of the African American Leadership Council (“AALC”) at the Democratic National Committee and as the Deputy Director of the AALC and the Midwest region for the 2012 Obama-Biden campaign. He previously held positions in the White House Office of Management and Administration and at the National Economic Council.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marcus graduated with his B.A. in both Public Policy Studies and Psychology from Duke University.
With over $63 million in campaign fundraising experience, Jack is a campaign fundraiser with over 6 years experience in the national political arena.
Most recently at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, Jack led the organization’s national fundraising effort for federal endorsed candidates. Jack focused his efforts on sourcing and securing major gifts from the Human Rights Campaign’s member community across the country via candidate fundraising events. By designing and facilitating candidate fundraising informational webinars to the national HRC member community, Jack raised over $1.7 million in 7 months for HRC-endorsed candidates.
Prior to joining HRC, Jack was the Deputy Director for South Region & Native Tribe fundraising at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) where he raised over $2 million. Jack managed call-time with current sitting U.S. Senators to facilitate major donor gifts from four states in the region (Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana) and fundraising event logistics for all events in the region including national events for the Native Tribe fundraising program.
During the 2016 cycle, Jack was the Deputy Southern Midwest Finance Director for Secretary Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential campaign, Hillary for America. For almost two years, Jack was a member of a small team that managed the campaign’s fundraising effort in the 13 states the comprised the Midwest Region (the largest region on the campaign!). With over $55 million in major donor gifts from the Midwest region, Jack participated in planning and executing principal fundraising events for Secretary Hillary Clinton, President Bill Clinton, Senator Tim Kaine, and Chelsea Clinton. Additionally, Jack designed and implemented a young professional fundraising program to Chicago donors that was later implemented in major cities across the country.
Jack began his fundraising career as Finance Director at the Lenda Sherrell for U.S. Congress campaign. A small, yet ambitious, campaign that attempted to flip Tennessee's fourth congressional district. By rapidly developing a fundraising skill set through mentorship and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Finance Training, Jack was able to raise over $900,000 in primary and general election campaign contributions.
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jack received his B.A. in Anthropology, International Studies, and Sociology from Loyola University Chicago.
